If you’ve ever loaded your truck bed full of stuff, you’re probably guilty of giving one extra tug to tighten the straps, stepping back and looking at the cargo, and telling anyone within hearing distance “that’s not going anywhere”. But is that really true? Without an anti-skid bed mat in your truck, it may be less true than you think.
A truck bed liner mat made of rubber is designed to help prevent cargo from slipping and sliding around in your truck bed. Other bed liner solutions such as spray-on bed liners do not offer this same functionality. In fact, some solutions such as drop-in bed mats can actually be slicker than a truck bed with no mat, making it easier for cargo to move around.
These are all things that we have considered when designing the DualLiner modular truck bed liner system. It’s the reason every bed liner system we offer comes complete with our ZeroSkid® rubber bed mat. Our ZeroSkid® bed mats are designed to alleviate all the concerns of other bed liner solutions. The series of rubber cleats underneath the bed mat serves to give the best grip and stability possible. Additionally, our ZeroSkid® bed mat allows for water and air flow between these rubber cleats, allowing your truck bed to properly drain away water. DualLiner’s ZeroSkid® rubber bed mat also functions with special “C” channel locks to hook into the other pieces of your bed liner. This functionality offers 100% protection for your truck’s bed without resorting to damaging techniques such as drilling, or less effective full-coverage options like spray coatings.
But why is it so important to have a bed mat that prevents cargo from skidding? After all, that’s what straps and rope are for right? Often, that isn’t enough, below we’ve outlined 5 of the top reasons that having an anti-skid bed mat matters for your truck.
#1 – Protect Your Cargo
First and foremost, you want to protect your cargo! Did you buy your first house and you’re moving out of your apartment? Or maybe your child is off to college to live in the dorms for the first time? Maybe you just went to Home Depot or Lowe’s and bought a couple hundred dollars’ worth of stuff that you don’t want dinged up by the time you get home? Whatever the case, it’s important to protect your cargo, and an anti-skid truck bed mat does that job. A high-quality rubber bed mat will prevent your cargo from moving around and bumping into the sidewalls of your truck bed as well as the rest of the cargo. By preventing these minor movements, you protect your cargo from dings, scratches, and other damage.
#2 – Protect Your Truck Bed
In addition to protecting your cargo, you want to protect your truck bed itself! Heavy cargo that slides around in the bed of the truck can impact the sidewalls and leave some nasty dents or scratches. Cargo that is a bit taller can even be a risk for impacting the back window of the cab and shattering the glass, leading to an unpleasant cleanup and a hefty replacement cost. Even if neither of those is a risk, the smallest bits of cargo can cause scratches and paint damage while moving around in the bed of your truck if not sitting on a bed mat, which can lead to rust damage and further problems down the line. Simply put, your truck’s bed isn’t actually protected without a quality bed mat.
#3 – Electronics Don’t Move Well
Electronics are another reason that it’s important to guarantee your cargo isn’t going anywhere. Picture this, you just purchased a brand new 65” 4k Smart TV, and you’re on the way home. All is right in the world, you have a movie night with the family planned to break the new TV in, and you’re as happy as can be. Then you hit a particularly nasty section of the road that you still aren’t sure why it hasn’t been repaved, you do your best to avoid the potholes but still have to hit a few of the smaller ones to avoid the big ones, the box your TV is in moves around your drop-in bed mat. You get home, open the box, and the screen’s covering has slipped off, the plastic strap has made contact directly with the screen, and your brand-new TV has a nice big scratch straight down the middle, movie night ruined. An anti-skid bed mat prevents that from ever becoming an issue. TVs, computers, and other electronics do not deal well with excess movement and keeping them securely in place is critical to making sure nothing goes wrong with them.
#4 – Straps Don’t Do Enough In Some Situations
In some cases, straps just aren’t enough to keep your cargo from moving around. Sure, they might keep the cargo in the bed of the truck and not laying on the road, but they won’t prevent the cargo from moving. For example, if you’re going on a camping trip and have a couple of miles of dirt roads and off-roading to get to your eventual camping ground, straps aren’t going to stop all those bumps from moving your cargo all around. That can mean spilled coolers, ice soaked sleeping bags, and who knows what else. Straps and rope are great for keeping things in the bed of the truck and preventing some of the movement depending on how tightly cargo is packed in, but ultimately that is only half the battle. In order to truly protect your cargo, you need an anti-skid bed mat in your truck.
#5 – Moving Small Items Is Easier
Small items are another case where things such as straps are not particularly useful. Sure, you can tie down each individual small item, but that is time-consuming and quite frankly frustrating. If you are moving small items in your truck bed consistently an anti-skid rubber bed mat is a lifesaver. The rubber will stop these items from slipping and sliding all over the place, bumping into each other, hitting the sidewalls of your truck, and just overall being a nuisance. With a bed mat such as DualLiner’s ZeroSkid® rubber bed mat, you can simply put your small items in the truck bed and head off, being confident they will stay in place and remain undamaged.

Thank you for pointing out that as far as keeping stuff inside of your truck bed, straps can’t keep the cargo from moving, even if it keeps them from falling onto the road. We have had so many things shift in moving and hauling while using our truck, there has been some damage. Sometimes it is to valuable things. We will definitely invest in a high-quality truck bed mat that will keep this from happening.
