For the 2024 model year, all the usual suspects are available, including offerings from Ford, Ram, and GM for a total of seven. We’ve ranked each model based on its driving performance, cargo space, towing ability, tech features, and various other extras that might give one model the edge over another.
1) 2024 Ford F-150
The Ford F-150 ranks number one for its class-leading performance, a wide variety of trims and packages to choose from, and a nice ride quality. The F-150 doesn’t need much of an introduction as it’s been the best-selling truck and vehicle in America for a long time.
For the 2024 model year, the F-150 is capable of towing up to 14,000 pounds when properly equipped. Its payload figures top out at 3,325 pounds. Depending on your choice of engine, the horsepower output ranges from 325 to 400. There are three engines available on the Ford F-150.
New for 2024, the Ford F-150 gets a style refresh, extra tech, and a multifunction tailgate. The price for this truck starts at $36,570. The only real con to bring up for the F-150 is that it still doesn’t offer a diesel option among its myriad of layouts. The 2024 F-150 is four years into a generation that launched for the 2021 model year.
Despite the lack of a diesel engine, the F-150 does have a hybrid drivetrain and you can get it in an all-electric version with the Ford F-150 Lightning.
2) 2024 Ram 1500
The 2024 Ram 1500 comes in number two on this list with winning features like a comfortable ride, respectable performance, and copious cabin storage options. The Ram 1500 has a choice of three engines and horsepower outputs range from 305 to 702. When properly equipped, the Ram 1500 can tow up to 12,750 pounds and has a max payload of 2,300 pounds.
New for 2024 is the TRX Final Edition, the discontinuation of the diesel option, and the Tradesman Warlock off-road package.
Pricing for the Ram 1500 starts at $38,750, which is a bit more than the Ford. One area where the Ram 1500 continues to excel is its supremely comfortable cabin and road manners. Compared to other full-size trucks, the interior and ride of the Ram 1500 is downright luxurious. The Ram 1500 is in its fifth generation, which launched in the 2019 model year.
3) 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
The 2024 Silverado comes in third of the big three brands. It offers strong towing ability, exclusive trailering tech, and plenty of trim and layout choices. When properly equipped, the Chevy Silverado 1500 can tow up to 13,300 pounds. Payload figures are between 1,520 and 2,260 pounds. All 2024 Silverado 1500 trucks can tow at least 8,900 pounds.
The main knock against the 2024 Chevy Silverado is that it’s not the F-150, but it still has plenty of strong features to appeal to many buyers and Chevy fans. In general, the truck rides comfortably and exhibits good body control.
Driving reviews say that the Silverado feels smaller than it is. An even better ride and more luxurious trappings are available in the top High Country trim. Pricing for the base trim starts at $37,445.
4) 2024 GMC Sierra 1500
The GMC Sierra 1500 is the Silverado’s stablemate. It offers plenty of choices, strong abilities, and is nice to drive. New for the Sierra 1500 in 2024 is a stronger turbodiesel engine and an extended warranty for the 2.7-liter engine. The main knock against the Sierra 1500 is that its high trims tend to be very expensive.
Pricing for the base trims of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 starts at $37,700. Mechanically, the Sierra 1500 is basically the same truck as the Silverado. However, the usual GMC method is to make the Sierra a little more upscale, starting with the base trims and following it through the highest trims.
The 2024 GMC Sierra can tow up to 13,200 pounds and haul up to 2,240 pounds. These numbers are close enough to the Silverado where the Sierra is a great choice for those who want something a little more upscale.
5) 2024 Toyota Tundra
The Toyota Tundra generally appeals to a different type of buyer vs those who are looking at the Ford, GM, and Ram options. It starts at a higher price point of $41,815, but it offers impressive resale value, an excellent ride, and plenty of safety tech. The Tundra can tow up to 12,000 pounds when properly equipped, and its max payload is 1,940 pounds.
New for 2024 is the Nightshade package, which adds blacked-out accents throughout. A factory 3-inch lift kit is an option on all trims except the TRD Pro trim. You can also get the TRD Off-Road package for the Platinum grade. For those who want a weekend warrior for chores, a comfortable ride during the week, and decent towing, the Tundra is a good choice.
6) 2024 Nissan Titan
The Nissan Titan remains a solid choice among full-size trucks with a class-leading warranty, a standard V8 engine, and plenty of standard safety features. However, it does have a much higher starting price than the domestic brands at $47,665. The Nissan Titan is also ending production after this model year, so if you want a new one, this is your last chance.
New for 2024 is the SV Bronze Edition package, which adds bronze details throughout. The trim range has also been streamlined, so there are only four to choose from now. The maximum payload on the Nissan Titan is 1,710 pounds, and its maximum towing ability is 9,320 pounds. Obviously, the Titan is no match for the Big Three or the Tundra, but it’s a solid choice in certain configurations.
7) 2024 Nissan Titan XD
The Titan XD is more capable than the regular Titan, and it features a roomy cabin, a solid warranty, and a strong V8. However, like the Titan, the Titan XD will be discontinued after this model year. The only thing new for 2024 is that the S trim has been removed from the lineup. Pricing for the Titan XD starts at $51,930, which is much higher than the other trucks listed here.
The main issue with the XD is that it falls in between niches. It’s a slightly heavy-duty truck, but its competition costs less and has more ability. The Titan XD generally appeals to a certain type of buyer. It offers a strong V8 that can tow up to 10,900 pounds when properly equipped.
